Vijayawada: Vijayawada police seized Rs 91 lakh in unaccounted cash that was being transported in a car during vehicle checking at Bhanunagar, Satyana-rayanapuram on Monday. With the election code coming into force, the police has arranged check posts around the city.
Personnel manning the check post at Bhanunagar stopped the car with two occupants and upon searching the vehicle found the Rs 91 lakh in cash. The two occupants were identified as Aluri Jagan Mohan Rao of Tulluru Village, Mandadam mandal and Yendluri Kiran Kumar from Gunadala of Vijayawada.
Police handed over the amount to Income-Tax officials. Vijayawada police commissioner Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said that everyone should be aware of the election rules and regulations.
He said that transporting or distributing of money, liquor, clothes, goods, or to arrange mass feeding programmes, using vehicles without permission for election campaign, conducting meetings and rallies beyond the stipulated time are all forbidden.
