Telangana high court recalls Dr Justice K Ramaswamy as humanist

Justice Ramaswamy commenced practice at the Andhra Pradesh High Court and was elevated as judge in 1982 and to the Supreme Court in 1989.

Hyderabad: The Full Court of the Telangana High Court on Monday made a reference on the passing away of Dr Justice K. Ramaswamy, former judge of the Supreme Court, on March 6.

Presiding over the Full Court, Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan recalled the services rendered by Justice Ramaswamy as a judge and humanist. He said Justice Ramaswamy’s legacy and life would inspire judges and young advocates.

“Dr Justice K. Ramaswamy lived a worthy and full life due from a worthy son of his motherland. His life was meaningful, effective and positive. He carried forward the mission of every judge to effectively and meaningfully contribute comprehensive support to the society through the legal and justice delivery system,” the CJ noted.

Belonging to the socially marginalised sector, Justice Ramaswamy commenced practice at the Andhra Pradesh High Court and was elevated as judge in 1982 and to the Supreme Court in 1989.

He retired in 1997 and served as executive chairman of the National Legal Services Authority and as member of the National Human Rights Commission.

Justice Ramaswamy was also involved in philanthropic activities, including in the establishment of charitable institutions to extend economic, educational, social and healthcare support for economically marginalised and socially excluded people particularly in the rural areas.
