Rajahmundry: Toll free No. to alert about rabid dogs

Rajahmundry: Municipal corporation authorities have set up a toll free mobile phone number advising the people to call up in case they find any mad dog or a dog having infection so that they can shift it to a dog shelter located a Quarry Area and provide necessary medical treatment.

Municipal commissioner Sumit Kumar Gandhi in a meeting held with the municipal health wing here on Monday directed the authorities to take necessary measures to help the people get rid of trouble from mad dogs and dogs suffering with diseases and asked the people to call up at the number 7093921991 and complain to the authorities about their problem.

He also instructed the municipal health authorities to take up animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination to the stray dogs to help control proliferation of their population and also control spread of rabies.

Municipal health officer M.V.R. Murthy informed the municipal commissioner that they were catching the stray dogs from the streets and shifting them to dog shelters to carry out ABC and ARV and later releasing them at the place of their origin after three days.

Mr Murthy said that a team of four dog catchers, two assistants and a medical officer was deputed for the purpose and added that they were closely monitoring the implementation of ABC and ARV programme.
