Kozhikode: Sunday's pulse polio immunisation drive for the children of migrant labourers failed with less than ten families turning up.
The state-level campaign for these children began from here to spread to other districts.
District health authorities are disappointed due to the poor turnout in spite of several awareness campaigns at their camps.
They were expecting 985 children below the age of five but less than 18 of them registered.
They had identified 2,894 houses rented to the migrant labour families and made them aware of the drive.
"We had made all arrangements on Sunday from 8 am onwards for administering polio vaccination, but few turned up. Finally, we had to go to their houses and do the vaccination," said district medical officer Dr V. Jayasree.
"The department hence had decided to talk to the agencies of these migrant labours to provide them with the necessary information regarding the immunisation and also attend sessions."...
