Hyderabad: Undertrial escapes from Gandhi Hospital amidst tight security
Hyderabad: An undertrial who was receiving treatment at the Gandhi Hospital for swallowing pieces of a tubelight at Cherlapally Central Prison, escaped by cutting the iron rods of a window in the prisoners’ ward in the early hours on Monday.
The police and prisons department have formed special teams to nab the absconding prisoner who was arrested at Mailardevpally for attempting to kill his wife.
According to Superintendent of Cherlapally Central Prison, M.R. Bhaskar, the undertrial, Pasupu Vicky, 25, was arrested in a case of domestic violence and had also attempted to murder his wife on December 28, 2018. He was lodged at the Cherlapally Central Prison since then.
On February 22, he consumed several pieces of a broken tube light in a state of depression. He was immediately rushed to Gandhi Hospital for treatment and was put in a prisoners ward on the second floor of the new block.
“At 1 am, the prisoner Vicky escaped from the ward. He reportedly cut the iron grill of a ventilator in the bathroom. With the help of a PVC pipe, which is used generally for watering the plants, he clinched down the two floors and then jumped out of the hospital from the back gate,” sources close to the police said. Four police personnel one Armed Reserve Sub-inspector and three police constables were present during the time of incident.
Meanwhile, it has also been found that Vicky was suffering from a psychological disorder and the police suspected that he may assault his wife again.
A case has been registered against him at the Chilkalguda police station under Section 224 of IPC.
