Bengaluru: A case has been registered against a 30-year-old man for allegedly trying to marry a minor girl. The police have also booked the family members of the accused and the girl's family for abetting child marriage.

A team of officials from the Women and Child Welfare Department rushed to Annamma Temple in Majestic where the wedding was scheduled and stopped it moments before it was to start.

After the marriage was stopped, the team along with the girl headed to the Parappana Agrahara police station and filed a complaint.

The officials later verified the birth certificate of the girl to find that she was 17 years and eight months old, four months short to the legal age of marriage. The girl is from Salem and did not want to get married. Her parents forced her to marry her maternal uncle, who is double her age, a police officer said.

The police booked the accused, Ganesh, a resident of GK Layout in Electronic City, under various sections of Child Marriage Act.

The parents of the accused and the girl's family were also booked by the police.

The victim was taken to a government home for girls for rehabilitation.
