Alappuzha: Nation in a crisis, says VS Achuthanandan
Alappuzha: The country is going through an unprecedented crisis, veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan saids here on Monday.
Inaugurating the election convention of A.M. Ariff, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate for the Alappuzha parliament constituency at Town Hall here on Monday, Mr Achuthanandan said the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put the economy in a downward spiral. "Demonetisation has badly hit the farmers and workers," he said. "The security situation has worsened and security personnel are feeling insecure under the NDA rule. The government is enmeshed in corruption and it is evident in the Rafale fighter jet deal."
The former chief minister alleged that Mr Modi had become a tool in the hands of Hindutva organisations and that he was interested only in protecting the interests of a few corporates. "Mr Modi is acting like an agent for propagating the Hindutva agenda in the country. He is only protecting the interests of Ambanis and Adanis. The government is trying to bring all constitutional institutions under its control. It is a crucial election and the BJP should not be allowed to come to power again at the centre. If voted back to power, they will unleash communal violence and try to create a Hindu nation," he said.
Mr. Achuthanandan criticised the Congress for its economic policies. He said that there was no difference between the BJP and the Congress on economic policies and several other aspects.
CPI district secretary T.J. Anjalose presided. CPM state secretariat member M.V. Govindan, ministers T.M. Thomas Isaac, G. Sudhakaran, P. Thilothaman, K. Raju and CPM district secretary R. Nazar and others attended.
