Chennai: A Mahayagam for universal well-being will be conducted at the Panchavati Anjaneyar temple, located on the Tindivanam-Puducherry National Highway, in connection with the Sri Ramanavami.

The Sri Jayamaruthi Seva Trust, which has chalked out elaborate programme to celebrate the Sri Ramanavami utsavam in a grand manner at the Panchavati Anjaneyar temple near Vanur Tindivanam, will conduct the mahayagam from March 22 to 25.

About 30 bhattachariars will participate in the mahayagam during which special abhishekam will be performed to the 36-ft high Viswaroopa Anjaneyar and Pattabhisheka Ramar. Milk, butter, sandal, curd, scented powders will be used for the abhishekam to the deity. The event will culminate with the Seetha Rama Thirukalyana Utsavm on March 25 at 4.30 pm, followed by Veena recital by Revathi Krishna. Devotees can participate in the special Thirumanchanam and laksharchanai.

According to Sri Jayamaruthi Seva Trust chairman and managing trustee, Kothandaraman, the laksharchanai would be held for four days at the Panchamukha Anjaneya temple where the deity graces the devotees in a unique Viswaroopa image with five faces. Hanuman’s own face is depicted in the centre with the other four being Garuda, Hayagreeva, Narasimha and Varaha. This five-faced or Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya is a symbol of the synergy that exists in Hinduism between animal, man and the divine.

A floating boulder, said to have been used by Lord Ram while establishing a bridge to Lanka from Dhanushkodi, can be seen in front of Sri Anjaneya’s shrine. The floating stone which is kept in a vessel filled with water, weighs about 15 kg.
