Hyderabad Metro Rail to hinder underapass works
Hyderabad: Though construction of the underpass at Raheja Mindspace is proceeding at a swift pace, it may not be able to relieve commuters of their traffic woes anytime soon. L&T has recently started laying the foundation for the last pier of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) right at the entrance of the underpass.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expediting the construction of the underpass to ease traffic problems. The work has been undertaken as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).
Even though the last pier of the HMR is going to be small, its foundation has been dug wide enough to block the entrance of the underpass. This is the last pier of corridor 3 from Nagole to Hitec City. HMR officials said, “Construction of the pier can be completed in two months, but its priority is yet to be decided. If the GHMC has some requirement, it will be done as per their schedule.”
According to officials, the underpass will be completed, without beautification works, by the end of March. The pavement-laying work is currently in progress.
The three-lane bidirectional underpass, which is 28 metres wide and 368 metres long, will connect Raheja Mindspace with the Ikea store that is under construction. It is being built at a cost of about Rs 26 crore.
The GHMC has constructed a gravity drain in the underpass to avoid the accumulation of water.
The flyover at the Mindspace Junction, which is also being constructed as part of the SRDP, will be completed by June. Officials may have to wait for construction of the flyover to be completed so that the underpass and the flyover can be inaugurated together.
