K Chandrasekhar Rao vows prove or perish' Act

Mr Rao criticised the Opposition for levelling “baseless allegations†of corruption in whatever programmes the government takes up.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the government would enact a “prove or perish Act” which would mandate those who make allegations against the government to prove them or face stringent action. Replying to the debate on motion of thanks to the Governor's address in the Assembly on Saturday, Mr Rao criticised the Opposition for levelling “baseless allegations” of corruption in whatever programmes the government takes up.

“We will no longer tolerate this. Anyone making allegations on the goverment should prove them, else they have to face stringent action. We will soon bring an Act in this regard,” he said. He said the Governor's speech reflected the programmes and schemes implemented by the government. “If anyone proves they are lies, I will quit my post within five minutes,” he said. “When we take up Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha to resolve drought and drinking water woes, they say call it ‘Commission Kakatiya’, ‘Commission Bhagiratha’ and accuse us of taking commissions from contractors. When we want to redesign projects to irrigate one crore acres, they allege corruption. When they level corruption charges, they should prove or perish,” Mr Rao stated.
