Worker dies as heavy equipment falls off crane at Kancheepuram
Chennai: A worker in a private firm engaged in manufacturing transformers at Kancheepuram died on Thursday after a heavy equipment fell from a crane on the company premises.
On Friday, other employees staged a protest on the company premises located at Rajakulam, near Sriperumbudur, complaining about lack of safety measures in the factory. The deceased was identified as Murali Chinnakannan, 33, of Maraimalai Nagar in Kancheepuram district.
Police said Murali was seriously injured when a heavy equipment fell off the crane on Thursday night. Though he was immediately rushed to Kancheepuram government hospital, he could not be saved.
Following the employee’s death, nearly 200 employees of the company, Indo Tech Transformers Ltd, gathered to protest in the factory premise on Friday morning stating that the firm was not following the safety norms for workers.
A police team rushed to the spot and assured all action if the family of the deceased lodged a complaint. Police later said they were yet to receive a complaint from the victim’s family.
