Nurses' strike injustice to patients: Malabar Medical College

The 150 odd nurses have been on with the strike for the last seventeen days.

KOZHIKODE: Malabar Medical College (MMC) and Research Centre came out heavily against the striking nursing staff saying the ongoing strike by nurses is injustice to the health sector and patients.

Organized under the United Nurses Association (UNA), the 150 odd nurses have been on with the strike for the last seventeen days. In a press release on Friday MMC management said that the medical college was a long cherished dream of large number of people living in the region.

The agitation is part of a conspiracy to destroy the dream project in which more than 900 persons are employed. The institution has been functioning giving all the mandatory facilities and other perks due to the staff as per the government norms, the release said. The union leaders of the nurses’ organization who engaged in union activities and some nurses have no commitment to the patients, the release said.

The sudden trigger of the strike was the dismissal of two trainee nurses two-weeks back and the subsequent suspension of the UNA unit president N. Sreemesh Kumar.
