Karnataka High Court to state: Curb illegal construction
Bengaluru: The Karnataka high court on Friday orally directed the state government take steps to curb illegal constructions in the city. The court was hearing a batch of PIL relating to regularisation of unauthorised constructions/developments scheme, also known as Akrama-Sakrama scheme.
The court expressed concern observing that most buildings in the city were constructed against the building norms. The state made it very clear that Akarama-Sakrama is a one-time scheme and it shall not be extended.
The petitioners, Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development and others, allege that the new rules have made it easy for the violators with very low fees and no strict rules regarding setbacks.
Some others have challenged the fee fixed by the authorities claiming that various provisions under rule 16 and 17 of Karnataka Town and Country Planning (Regularization of Unauthorized Development and Constructions) Rules 2014 are discriminatory and arbitrary.
