Dreams that still remain unfulfilled

CPM MLA from Kalliasseri T V Rajesh initiated two dream projects but could complete only the first phase.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Five year term is not enough for a legislator to implement all projects in his constituency. Many MLAs who conceived, planned and even prepared detailed project reports could not be implemented them at all or were able to only complete the initial phase due to paucity of funds, land and time.

Smart Alwaye was Congress MLA Anwar Sadath's dream project which he wanted to implement before the completion of his tenure. A detailed project report was finalised to give a facelift to the town.

“I wanted to change the face of Alwaye. We were keen to have footpaths with interlock tiles, renovate the parks, create foothpath with hand rails, make the town disabled friendly, install surveillance cameras in vantage points, beautify medians and roundabouts. Everything was finalised but we could not get the required funds for the project which was estimated to cost Rs 7 crore, " he said.
Sadath said if he got another chance, Smart Alwaye would be top on his priority list and would become a reality.

If lack of funds came in the way of implementing Sadath’s dream project, for Hibi Eden it was non availability of land which became a stumbling block for realisation of his favourite scheme. The Ernakulam MLA wanted to set up a Technological and Science Park for creating awareness about science, technology especially among the public in general and school students in particular.

“My dream project comprised an elaborate science park and planetarium. Our friends from the industry promised to provide funds under CSR. But the project could not take off because of non availability of land. About one acre of land was required for the project,” he said.

CPM MLA from Kalliasseri T V Rajesh initiated two dream projects but could complete only the first phase. “Almost 45 per cent of the work on the 24 km road running parallel to NH in Kalliasseri could be completed though I wanted to see its completion. Similarly a wetland conservation and paddy cultivation project covering four panchayats in my constituency was implemented. Since only Rs 10 crore of the Rs 24 crore was sanctioned, a major portion of the scheme could not be implemented. As part of the paddy project, an Agri scientist from Kerala Agricultural University had developed a high yielding variety of seed for the scheme. I am sure whosoever gets elected from here willl carry forward these projects," he added.
