Coimbatore: Coimbatore’s once popular government - aided CBM college may be taken over by the state government if the recommendation of the joint director of Regional Collegiate Education (RCE) is accepted.

The joint director K.Jagadeesan of RCE, Coimbatore, has written to the director, urging him to take appropriate action for take over of the college by the government.

In his recent letter, the joint director said, “the college administration gets all fund benefits from the state government and failed to provide the benefits to the teaching and non-teaching staffs and the students.

To solve the problem, we have conducted meeting with the staff, students and the college management on February 5, 2016.

“Without the proper cooperation from the management, the meeting failed to provide a fruitful solution. Finally, we have decided to recommend that the state government should take appropriate action under the Private College Regulation Act for the takeover of the CBM College as a government college.”

He has further stated in his letter that the college lacked toilets, drinking water, playground, computer laboratories, toilet facilities and drinking water. The college students have complained of lack of teachers for aided courses.

“We have already sent a letter on May 20, 2009 seeking state government and the higher education department intervention in college issue and take over the college under the Private College Regulation Act 1976 section 4 (a). Recent inspection reveals that there are no basic facilities such as toilet facilities and drin king water in college campus. The college management failed to improve the basic amenities in the campus over the period of years.”
