Chennai: Teacher suspended for three days

Chennai: Slogans against corporal punishment were shouted after a school teacher allegedly thrashed a class 7 student at East Tambaram on Friday .

When Deccan Chronicle contacted the school authorities, they said the issue had been exaggerated. “Had the student not mocked at the teacher, he would not have been bashed much,” they said.

“Following demands from parents, we have suspended the teacher for three days. However, the protestors were not convinced”, they added.

Child psychologist K. Venkataramani said such atrocious treatment would lead to irreversible side effects in children. It causes neurological setback, “Every child has got different potential. A teacher should penetrate the child’s mind to understand it and adopt a suitable methodology to tackle,” he suggested.
