Disha app helps get Prof. nabbed

She felt insulted and humiliated with the obscene acts of the professor, who was sitting behind her seat.

KAKINADA: A professor of Andhra University, A. Basavaiah, has been arrested under the Disha Act at Eluru in West Godavari District. He was produced before a magistrate within seven hours of registering the case under the Disha Act on Tuesday.

According to West Godavari superintendent of police Rahul Singh Grewal, a woman was coming from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada by bus. She felt insulted and humiliated with the obscene acts of the professor, who was sitting behind her seat. She immediately used the SOS Disha App, pressed the button, and shook her cell phone five times. At the same time, she dialled 100, which immediately went to the notice of SP, who alerted Eluru DSP O. Dilip Kiran.

Disha personnel identified the location of the bus through GPRS and stopped the bus at Kalaparru toll plaza. The woman narrated to the police her bitter experience with the passenger, who passed on details to the SP and Disha Special Officer Deepika Patil. Eluru Three Town police registered a “Zero” FIR and sent the accused to Pedapadu police station, who registered a case under sections 354 (a) and 354. The accused was produced before the Magistrate on Tuesday evening along with the remand report.
