Bengaluru: Did BJP leaders, in particular state unit chief B.S. Yeddyurappa, ignore advise of RSS leaders against luring legislators of coalition parties, and land themselves in trouble?
Sources in the BJP, privy to a meeting between leaders of BJP and RSS, told Deccan Chronicle that the latter were opposed to any overt or covert operations to woo legislators of Congress or JD(S).
“During a discussion, RSS leaders gave their opinion not to make any attempts to destabilise the government till LS polls,” sources added.
Some leaders, however, argued that the BJP won 104 seats, and if attempts were not make to form the government, it would be difficult to hold the flock of MLAs together. The other logic given by BJP leaders was that MLAs would not be content being mere legislators. “They wanted to become ministers, so a few party leaders might have ventured into this,” sources said. The tape episode has evidently stunned central leaders of BJP. The sources attributed PM Modi’s lackluster speech at Hubballi on Sunday to latest political developments in the state.
Hours before Mr Modi landed in Hubballi, Mr Yeddyurappa admitted that he spoke to Gurumitkal MLA’s son which gave ammunition to opposition leaders who not only attacked Mr Yeddyurappa, but also Mr Modi himself.
Certainly, this seemed to have had an effect on Mr Modi who cut short his speech to mere 30 minutes, sources added.
