CHENNAI: Over 16 lakh candidates have appeared for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s (TNPSC) Group IV exam on Sunday. Candidates will be selected for various posts including junior assistants, village administrative officers and land surveyors based on the exam.

For 9,351 vacancies over 20 lakh candidates have applied. In Chennai district alone, over one lakh candidates have appeared for the exam.

“Of the registered candidates 84.71 per cent candidates appeared for the exam,” said R.Sudhan, Controller of Examinations, TNPSC.

Kumar, a candidate from Guindy who wrote the exam said, “This year the general studies section was dominated by current affairs questions. Compared to last year, the exam is moderately easy.”

Some candidates found the Aptitude section little difficult.

“General Tamil and General English contained standard questions. With preparation one can easily clear the exam,” another candidate said.

For the first time, the commission has issued the answer sheets with printed details such as the photograph, register number and optional subject to reduce the errors. The examination centres also videographed to prevent malpractices.

Totally, 6,962 exam centres were set up as the number of candidates registered for the exam is unprecedented. Officials have made elaborate arrangements for conducting the examinations in all the districts.
