Elections will be held to three graduate and two teacher constituencies in AP and a teacher constituency in Telangana on March 9.

Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Saturday warned political parties of serious action if they tempted voters in the ensuing Legislative Council elections in Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, Mr Bhanwarlal said the notification would be issued on February 13 for five MLC seats in AP and one in in TS. Elections will be held to three graduate and two teacher constituencies in AP and a teacher constituency in TS on March 9.

He said the final list of contesting candidates would be released on February 23. Counting of votes would be held on March 15. He said the model code of conduct had come into force from February 6 in the districts that comprise the constituencies.

He said two teams would be sent to every mandal to check violations of the code of conduct. Mr Bhanwarlal said that there was no limit for expenditure in the teacher MLC elections, but if anyone tried to tempt voters by giving gifts, serious action would be taken.

To a question, Mr Bhanwarlal said the election code was not applicable for the recruitments by AP and Telangana state public service commissions as the orders were issued before the announcement of the election schedule.
