Telangana: Daily water scheme put off till March
Hyderabad: Reintroduction of the daily water scheme in the core city is put off as the model code of conduct has come into effect in the run-up to the MLC elections. The Metro Water Board that earlier announced start of daily water supply from February 1, later postponed the plan for a week. The scheme will be delayed further and not be implemented till middle of March.
At present, a trial run (daily water supply) is being conducted in 200 slums in the core area. In the first week of February, water was supplied daily to as many as 58,000 connections in slums. The official said the water board would increase the daily supply to at least one lakh connections by February end and spread it to the remaining areas in the city.
The water board currently supplies 387million gallons of water a day (MGD) to over 8.90 lakh connections on alternate days in Greater Hyderabad, and three-four days a week in GHMC peripheral circles. Water is withdrawn from Akkampally (270 mgd) and Yellampally (172 mgd). City no longer gets water from Osmansagar and Himayathsagar, although it had satisfactory water levels. The water board currently supplies water on alternate days for an hour.
