MK Stalin seeks PM help for President nod on NEET bill

Besides, each state had its own quantum of reservation for BCs,MBCs and SCs and STs and system, pattern of education and medium of instruction.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps for getting the President's assent to the state legislation on NEET and appealed to him to restore education from the concurrent list to the state list.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, he said "At this crucial juncture, when the exam date is fast approaching, there is a total political and constitutional stalemate in the state and the fate of the NEET legislation is hanging in the air".

"While the need for "brilliant doctors" cannot be faulted with, it is equally very important to also have "barefoot doctors" to provide medical services and health care in rural areas to have a more effective public health care system". NEET would not be advantageous for the rural students and poor students in urban areas. If NEET is introduced, the Students in rural areas will undergo untold hardships and their future aspirations to become doctors will be unjustifiably thwarted, Stalin opined.

Besides, each state had its own quantum of reservation for BCs,MBCs and SCs and STs and system, pattern of education and medium of instruction. The State govt introduced a bill exempting NEET and it's was passed unanimously on 01.02.2017 with the whole hearted support extended by the DMK, the principal opposition Party in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, he noted.
