Hyderabad: Citizens scramble to avail 50 per cent off on traffic challans
Hyderabad: The final day of the ‘Mega Lok Adalat’ witnessed a heavy rush. This being a public holiday, a second Saturday, people turned up in large numbers. In collaboration with Hyderabad traffic police, the Metropolitan Legal Services Authority organised the three-day adalat in which a 50 per cent rebate was given on traffic challan payments. The highest amount paid in the last three days of the adalat was Rs 20,100 for clearing 20 challans against vehicle number AP28TV0638, a goods tempo(Tata Ace).
The second highest was Rs 18,070 for clearing 22 challans against vehicle number AP29TA8157. Sixty challans were paid against vehicle number AP23Y8304 (Bajaj Auto), which was the highest number of challans paid in the three-day adalat. Defaulters have utilised this opportunity by clearing all their challans by paying half the original amount. The third day of the Lok Adalath witnessed challans being cleared of 3,753 vehicles. From South district, 1,453 vehicles were cleared on the first day of the lok adalat, and from North district 2,300 vehicles on the first day of the lok adalat 2017. As many as 14,008 challans got cleared on the third day of the adalat.
On Saturday, traffic police collected Rs 56, 34,480 at both the divisions. A total of Rs 33, 40,115 was collected from the North division and Rs 22, 94,365 from the South division. The mega Lok Adalat was held at Dhobi Ghat opposite Imperial Gardens in Secunderabad and the Goshamahal police stadium.
