Brake on speeding in Outer Ring Road at 100-kmph

This decision is likely to come into effect in a week's time.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will be modifying the maximum speed limit on Outer Ring Road to 100km per hour (kmph) from the existing 120kmph. This decision is likely to come into effect in a week's time. Chief secretary SP Singh had made a suggestion to this effect to the metropolitan body so that accident rates could be brought down.

In a meeting on metropolitan transport issues, accidents on ORR came up for discussion. Cops explained that over-speeding was one of the main factors, while HMDA officials said the present speed of 120kmph was in line with the speed limits allowed on modern express ways. However, HMDA was told to reduce the speed limit on the eight-lane ORR and see how it worked for a few months.

The maximum speed on the 165-km long Yamuna Expressway connecting Greater Noida with Agra is 100 kmph. Meanwhile, the federation of associations of colonies and apartments (FACA) has demanded that HMDA roll back the ORR tariff hike. V. Kamesh Babu, secretary, said increasing toll rates citing increased maintenance costs was not correct.
