Kerala: MLAs may be booked for bedlam
Thiruvananthapuram: As the state assembly is all set for another budget presentation, the Crime Branch probing the bedlam in the house during the last year's budget presentation is likely to charge-sheet some LDF MLAs soon.
It was on last March 13 that the Assembly witnessed unprecedented scenes of Opposition MLAs trying to prevent then Finance Minister K M Mani from presenting the budget owing to the bar bribery allegations.
The opposition members even stayed over night in the Assembly and tried to block Mr. Mani as well as speaker N Sakthan from entering the house. The speaker's chair was thrown off the dais and damaged mic and other gadgets on his table.
While the speaker managed to reach his dais with a security cover, Mani was assigned another seat on the second row to avoid attention of Opposition MLAs and Mani managed to present the budget amidst show of strength between MLAs of ruling and opposition.
The police registered a case against several LDF MLAs as per a complaint of legislature secretary on the damages caused to the house. The Crime Branch probing the case have almost completed the probe and the charge sheet will be filed before March, said sources.
Five LDF MLAs were also suspended and women MLAs of the opposition raised molestation allegations against some UDF MLAs, which is now pending before court.
