KARIMNAGAR: As many as 3,600 special RTC buses would be operated from Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal and Khammam districts, in view of the ensuing Sammakka-Saralakka tribal fair to be held in Medaram from February 17 to 20.
Speaking to this newspaper, RTC Karimnagar zone executive director G. Saty-anarayana said the Corporation would provide adequate transportation facilities to the tribal devotees.
He said 3,600 buses would be arranged from different towns of the five districts to Medaram. In addition, 400 buses would be kept ready for pressing into service, in case of shortage. Over 1,000 buses have been pooled in from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, he said.
Of them, 640 buses would be run from various towns in Karimnagar district to the venue of the fair. The special RTC bus services will be provided in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Godavarikhani, VIII Incline Colony, Manthani, Husnabad and Huzurabad.
At the same time, special fares will be charged for travelling on these buses. For instance, the price of a ticket is Rs 230 for an adult and Rs 120 for children from Karimnagar to Medaram.
From Godavarikhani, it will be Rs 220 for adults and Rs 120 for children. For devotees of Manthani and Huzurabad, Rs 190 would be charged for adults.
Mini jataras to be held at 50 places in Karimnagar district
Over 50 mini-platforms (Gaddelu) of Sammakka-Sarakka are being spruced up at various towns and mandal headquarters in the district.
Those who cannot travel to Medaram for various reasons would offer prayers to the tribal goddesses at these places.
District collector Neetu Prasad said borewells were being dug up and showers would be installed to enable devotees take bath.
Drinking water facilities will be provided round-the-clock during the four days through tankers sponsored by the local civic bodies. Approach roads have been laid and steps are being taken to maintain sanitation at these places.
Ms. Prasad stated that a special officer would be deployed at each venue. She directed the RDOs and sub-divisional police officials to monitor the facilities.
Temporary toilets and urinals will be provided. Medical camps will be set up at the venues that register heavy inflow of devotees.
