Bengaluru: City-based netizens saluted departed solider Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, who is from the state of Hubballi. #Hanumanthappa become top trending both on Twitter and Facebook following the news of his death.

Ved Sharma, a netizen posted on Twitter ‘Siachen soldier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa dies, nation pays tribute. May his valour inspire you.’ State IT minister S.R. Patil tweeted ‘RIP Hanumanthappa Koppad & other soldiers martyred in Siachen avalanche. We remain indebted to them’.

Ramesh, another resident tweeted ‘Sad to know Siachen Survivor Lance Naik Hanumanthappa passed away. Thanks for your supreme sacrifice for our country!’

On Facebook, #Hanumanthappa was trending after he was declared dead. Shashishekhar, a FB user wrote in his wall “You will be in our hearts always. You fought till your last breath..!!! India always remember your sacrifice.”

Another resident Gautam Azad wrote a short poem on the martyr. “Dear Hanumanthappa, you saved our country and gave your life. Today Heaven finally become safer after you joining the ranks today. Sometimes, even God is selfish! The soldier in you remains immortal forever. Proud that martyrs like you have served India. May your soul rest in peace. Return If Possible!!,” he wrote on his FB wall.

BJP state president Pralhad Joshi wrote on his FB wall that India lost one more brave heart when Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, the lone survivor of the avalanche that stuck an army post in Siachen on February 3, burying 10 soldiers of 19 Madras Regiment, died in a Delhi hospital. He leaves us sad & devastated. RIP Lance Naik Hanumanthappa. The soldier in you remains immortal. Proud that martyrs like you served India.
