Hyderabad: An alcoholic father alleged killed his five-year-old daughter to take revenge on his wife for not providing him money for buying alcohol, according to a complaint filed with the police on Saturday.
Police said the accused, A. Durga Rao, worked as a watchman in Bhaskara Nilayam, LB Nagar, and stayed there with his family.
His wife works as a domestic help. They have two children aged seven and five. Police said Durga Rao used to harass his wife for money to buy liquor.
LB Nagar inspector V. Ashok Reddy said “On Friday night also, Durga Rao picked up a quarrel on being refused money. On Saturday, she asked him to take their children to school and went to work.”
:When she returned at 9.45 am, she found her five-year-old daughter Yamini in an unconscious state. When she tried to wake her up there was no response”, he said.
The complainant informed her brother, who stays nearby, and they rushed her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. The doctors said the girl had been strangled.
Later, her brother stated that he had dropped her elder daughter at school on Durga Rao’s instructions.
Based on the complaint from the woman, LB Nagar police booked a case and arrested Durga Rao.
Meanwhile, the body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem and later handed it over to family members after autopsy on Saturday.
Further investigation is underway, a police official said.
