Setting world record: Over 1,800 women make pongal Tiruchengode

Over 1,800 women came together at the KSR College premises here on Friday and cooked the much sought after dish.

TIRUCHENGODE: In a bid to create a world record for the largest number of women gathered at one place to prepare the traditional sweet rice as part of the ‘Pongal’ festival celebrations, over 1,800 women came together at the KSR College premises here on Friday and cooked the much sought after dish.

The women students formed a unique pattern that resembled the logo of the popular telecommunication service provider, ‘Jio’, on the huge college grounds while preparing the traditional ‘Pongal’ dish, the college said in a statement here. ‘Pongal’ is one of the biggest festivals in Tamil Nadu celebrated across communities and religions.

“This year, we decided to come together as a community and celebrate the festival. Jio agreed to support us in this initiative and the whole student community is very excited about this attempt. With seamless 4G connectivity, Jio is already a big part of people’s life here,” said Lion Dr K. S. Rangasamy, chairman- KSR Educational Institutions.

The global record was attempted in the presence of ‘Jio’ representatives, chairman, Lion Dr K.S. Rangasamy and Vice chairman, Mr Srinivasan of KSR Educational Institutions and Mr Rahiman, chief adjudicator of ‘Unique World Records’.
