Visakhapatnam: Tech can keep a tab on pollution

Industries now share emission-related data.

Visakhapatnam: Member Secretary of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) A. Sudhakar called for maintaining good environment systems by industries that would help increase the lifespan and living standards of people. He also advised using technology to measure air quality to control pollution. He made this observation while delivering the keynote address at the one-day workshop on online continuous emission and effluent monitoring systems jointly organised by central pollution control board and RINL-VSP at Ukkunagaram here in Vizag.

Speaking on the occasion, Sudhakar said that e-governance and online emission monitoring systems are playing a vital role in ensuring a better and healthy life and contributing towards reducing pollution. He said that the people are more aware of the environmental hazards and that technology/IOT is helping them to monitor the air quality and take remedial measures. He said that industries are coming forward to share the data related to the emissions thanks to technology and internet.

While hailing Vizag Steel as a pride of the nation, he commended the ecosystem highly and the environment protection measures being implemented by RINL in and around the plant. P. Madhusudan, CMD of RINL in his opening remarks mentioned that nature and mankind are struggling to survive due to rise in environmental problems and hence companies tend to adopt more eco-efficient and innovative practices to balance the nature and that would enhance productivity by reducing of inputs and improved efficiency.

He said that well defined environmental control measures with strict compliance to standards would reduce human health costs from pollution exposure and added that RINL has introduced new technologies for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and made huge investments on environmental protection systems in expansion also.
