Telangana: No local bodies in 32 industry zones
Hyderabad: The TS government is upset over the undue delay in setting up of the Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA) in 28 centres in the rural areas and four in towns and cities. To enable effective maintenance of civic services in industrial parks, the state government had empowered TS Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) with local authority status.
The TSIIC exercises statutory powers and functions of local bodies in industrial parks falling under municipalities, corporations and gram panchayats.
The TSIIC has powers to collect revenue and give some percentage to local bodies as decided by the government.
IIC officials said the process of issuing notification to set up the IALAs had been delayed. But the panchayat raj department officials claimed they had completed the process of consulting gram panchayats. Some were in agreement, but some had concerns, mainly about revenue-sharing.
IIC officials said the constitution of IALAs would help industries in securing building plan approvals expeditiously. Regarding revenue-sharing, the requests of local bodies for higher share could be examined.
In IALAs, the TSIIC would have statutory powers and functions such as assessment.
Chief Minister’s principal secretary S. Narsing Rao recently reviewed the status of IALAs with the TSIIC, panchayat raj, municipal and other department officials.
