Chennai: The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, at Allikulam, has granted five-day police custody to a prime accused in the Government polytechnic colleges lecturer recruitment scam.
The prime accused Shiek Dawood Naser, an employee of Delhi based company, Datatech Private Limited, had surrendered before judicial magistrate in Ponneri on Saturday.
Central Crime Branch (CCB) filed a petition before additional chief metropolitan magistrate court seeking his custody to obtain vital information relating to the scam. On December 28, Ganeshan, a call taxi-driver was arrested on charges of acting as a middleman between candidates and the employee of the Datatech Private Limited.
When the matter was taken up for hearing, Naser was produced before the court. Granting five day police custody, judge S. Malarvizhi ordered the CCB to produce him before the court on January 17.
It may be noted that the Teachers’ Recruitment Board (TRB) has been conducting competition examination for recruitment of lecturers to the government polytechnic colleges. Following evaluation of answer sheets, the TRB releases OMR (Optical Mark Reading) sheets. The results showed that at least 230 candidates secured high marks by manipulating electronic records. On a complaint from TRB member-secretary Uma, the CCB registered a case and conducted probe. She alleged that the Dataetech Limited, which entrusted with receiving online applications and processing till publication of results. The electronic records were manipulated to give more marks to undeserved candidates.
