Chennai: BSNL to probe complaints against linemen seeking bribe
CHENNAI: Vigilance officials of BSNL have launched an investigation against their linemen serving in parts of Chennai following complaints that the linemen were demanding bribe from the customers.
Following a complaint from one Mr N. Rajan that BSNL linemen were demanding cash to provide new landline connection, the BSNL vigilance cell has lodged a departmental inquiry in to the issue.
The vigilance department had also registered a case and are now targeting errant BSNL insiders.
It may be noted that the in the past one year, the vigilance cell of the BSNL has cracked down the racket in which BSNL modems were misused by the private dealers and the BSNL officials had also suspended two of its staff last year for looting the optical fibre cables in Ayanavaram and Pulainthope areas. “There is a need for more awareness among public who apply for BSNL phone connecti-ons,” said V Sathiabalan, former telecom advisory committee member. BSNL staffers should be sensitized to treat their customers with dignity so that the public sector Chennai telephone does not loses its customers to private telecom players, he added.
