Chennai: Chennai airport on Thursday commenced the trial for simultaneous operations of the main and the secondary runway. According to sources this is the first time that the city airport has commenced the operations of flights on both runways at a same time. The 55 minute trial saw 22 flights being operated and this means a flight was operated for every two and half minute increasing the handling capacity of the Chennai international airport. The trial on Thursday was successful and would continue for three months. This upon fine-tuning will help the airlines to save fuel. Further the simultaneous operation of flights will help airlines to maintain punctuality during the arrival and departure of flights benefiting the air passengers, Chennai airport sources said.
