Bengaluru: Double whammy for motorists at Hennur

While the construction of flyover drags on, white topping adds to their misery.

People living in and around Hennur who are already having to put up with traffic snarls due to the construction of a flyover in the area, are now facing double inconvenience with the white topping road work, that is holding up traffic for an uncomfortably long time.

Says Ms Nadia Zackaria, a chartered accountant living in the area, “Getting out of the house has become a nightmare as people living in and around Hennur take no less than an hour to cross the 500 metre stretch owing to the work on the flyover. And now they are facing even more inconvenience due to the white topping work from Babusapalya to Hennur junction. There will be no respite for the people until the work is completed.”

Noting that many residents of the area are upset that it takes them a few hours to reach their homes in interior Hennur from the Hennur junction on the Outer Ring Road( ORR), she warns that the people plan to hold another protest for speedy completion of all civic work in the area.

Another resident of Hennur, Kushal Raju, rues that even the presence of the police to regulate traffic doesn’t seem to have helped.

“I don’t think that the flyover will be completed anytime soon considering the current pace of work . The white topping started from January 8 this year and the officials claim they will finish it by Februray 10. But they could have initiated the white topping work after the flyover was completed. I do not understand why there is so much work being done at one go and at the cost of causing traffic jams all through the day,” Kushal says.

When contacted, a senior officer of the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), assured that the flyover work had picked up pace and would be completed soon. “We are going all out to make sure there is no delay, as we understand the plight of the public otherwise,” he said
