Licence, driving test fees up
Hyderabad: Arbitrarily and without any warning, the Central government has considerably increased fees for driving licence, driving test, fitness test and other services. People who came for these tests at various RTA outlets were understandably angry at the exorbitant and sudden increase in fees.
The central zone road transport officer, GPN Prasad, said it was difficult to explain about the new rates to the people who came for various motoring licences.
“Some quarelled with officials over the sudden change, and we had to convince them it was a change in policy.” The fee for a learner’s licence has been increased from Rs 30 to Rs 150, with an extra charge of '50 for a driving test; there was no charge for a driving test before.
The RTA used to collect Rs 30 for each class of vehicle, Rs 30 for only two-wheeler and Rs 60 for two and four-wheeler together, but now the fee is Rs 300 in case of two classes of vehicle.
Narender Kumar, who had come for his driving test, queried the need for the increase in the fee for the test. “Prices are increasing every day; now we have to shell out heavy bucks even for a driving test,” he complained.
