IIT tracker sees 150L Omicron cases
Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, which launched a Covid Tracker website that will help the public to predict and monitor the future course of the Covid pandemic, has said that in a pessimistic scenario, India could see a whopping 150 lakh cases of Covid-19 caused by the Omicron variant in the next three to four months.
As per its modelling based on existing data, the website launched by IIT-H, says that the best-case scenario could see India racking up around 100 lakh Omicron cases, with an intermediate scenario putting the number of Omicron cases in India around 125 lakh.
The Covid Tracker predictions also say that the Omicron wave, if it happens, will subside sometime towards the end of March 2022 in India with a peak occurring anywhere in January or February.
The covid19tracker.in website, has been created by the SUTRA (Susceptible, Undetected, Tested (positive), and Removed Approach) Consortium of which IIT Hyderabad is a member. This Covid tracker will provide uninterrupted and updated data on all aspects of the pandemic to researchers, students and the public.
During the launch, Prof. B.S. Murthy, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said “our website has become an important source of data and attracted considerable traffic despite being created in such a short time”.
