Bengaluru: Power cuts are back in the city. As soon as counting for the by-elections came to an end on Monday, eastern parts of the city experienced load-shedding.
Residents of KR Puram, Ramamurthynagar, Banaswadi, Frazer Town and surrounding areas complained of frequent power cuts from Monday afternoon. Power cuts continued even on Tuesday.
Residents claimed that from the time the election dates were announced and till the time the results came out, there was not a single minute of power cut in areas where the elections were being held.
“It was surprising that there were no power cuts and we were wondering when did Bescom become so efficient. But as soon as the results were announced, there were power cuts from the same day,” said Mr Mohammed Arif, a chartered accountant in Ramamurthynagar.
“Just because of the by-elections there were no power cuts and now they have resumed. On Monday evening, power supply was disrupted for about two hours and on Tuesday, power went off three times since the morning,” he added.
Ms Sumathi, a nurse in a private hospital and a resident of KR Puram, said, “Power cuts have resumed and this only shows that when elections are around the corner, there are no power cuts. From Monday evening to Tuesday evening, the power supply was frequently disrupted spanning for over an hour.”
When DC contacted Bescom officials, they claimed that they were carrying out maintenance work and power cuts were in no way related to elections.
