Two policemen have been stationed in front of Mr Guha's house after he complained to the Bengaluru police over phone.

Bengaluru: The police have provided security at the house of historian Ramachandra Guha, who complained to the police about death threats he received over his tweet on eating beef.

Two policemen have been stationed in front of Mr Guha’s house after he complained to the Bengaluru police over phone.

A senior police officer told Deccan Chronicle that the protection will continue for some more days. “Mr Guha informed us on Sunday and based on that, two police personnel have been stationed,” he said.

Mr Guha posted the controversial tweet with a photo on Friday, saying, “After a magical morning in Old Goa, we had lunch in Panaji, where - since it is a BJP-ruled state - I decided to eat beef in celebration.”

On Sunday, Mr Guha removed the photo and tweeted that he had received threat calls from a man calling himself Sanjay from Delhi. Mr Guha’s wife too was threatened.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), who was informed about the threats, provided the security. Mr Guha is yet to file a formal plaint.
