Thiruvananthapuram: Screening resumes at Tagore theatre

Film academy hires a blue ray projector.

Thiruvananthapuram: After two days of uncertainty, the screening of movies at Tagore Centenary hall – the main venue of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) – resumed from Monday evening. The Kerala State Chalachithra Academy hired a blue ray projector to ensure screening at Tagore which can accommodate around 900 plus delegates.

Thousands of delegates had a hard time when the screening at the Tagore was stalled last Saturday owing to a technical glit-ch. Several movies scheduled at the Tagore were cancelled or rescheduled putting the delegates at the receiving end.

Meanwhile the effort of the authorities to fix the 2K projector, which became non-operational at the Hall, continues.“The 2K projector at the hall stopped functioning due to a technical glitch. The spare part was brought from Vijayawada and by Tuesday morning the projector will be ready,” said an official.

An official said that the warranty of the projector got expired three years back. The I&PRD – the department owning the hall – doesn’t have an annual maintenance contract with the company for carrying out routine maintenance of the projector.

Rs 23.04 crore worth renovation work was undertaken by KTDFC (Kerala Transport Development Financial Corporation) to spruce up the theatre back in 2011. The refurbished theatre with the new projector was opened ba-ck in 2015; however, recurring maintenance work continues to haunt the theatre, a popular cultural hub in the state capital.
