Guntur student is winner at regional level

The students from 10 leading schools and colleges with biology sciences participated in the contest.

Guntur: Students were told to inculcate the habit of scientific thinking and teachers to encourage science among students during Amaravati Regional Brain Bee neuroscience quiz competition. The Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur in association with Indian National Brain Bee conducted Amaravati Regional Brain Bee for the first year Intermediate students of biology at Guntur on Sunday.

C. Bhargavi, student of Bhashyam Junior College, Guntur, emerged the winner of third Amaravati Regional Brain Championship. Jyothirmayi of Dr K.L.P. Senior Secondary School got second place while P. Manjith Sriraj of Bhashyam Medex Guntur got third place. GGH head of neurology department Dr N.V. Sundarachary said the Regional Brain Bee Quiz is a live question and answer competition about neuroscience for students of 11th standard.

He said the best young brains in India are quizzed about the brain and how it relates to intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations, movements, stress, aging, sleep and brain disorders such as drug addiction, Alzheimer’s, Autism and stroke. He said that this programme is an attempt to motivate the youth to learn about the brain, capture their imagination and inspire them to pursue careers in bio-medical brain research. Dr Sundarachary urged students to learn about the human brain and asserted on the need to find cures for several debilitating diseases. He also illustrated the exciting opportunities in brain research.

Neurology faculties Dr U. Veeramma and Dr Ramakrishna were the quiz masters who conducted the competitions for students of Guntur and Vijaya-wada under the supervision of Dr Sundarachary. The students from 10 leading schools and colleges with biology sciences participated in the contest. The Quiz had four rounds — a written round followed by three rounds of oral questions pertaining to the human brain. The contest was very exciting and witnessed by a large gathering that included teachers and parents who took keen interest in the program.

Mr Ravindranadh, National Coordinator, Indian National Brain Bee, Hyderabad, said the winner of this regional contest will be invited to compete with winners from other states, in the 11th Indian National Brain Bee championship, to be held in Ahmedabad in April, 2018. He added that Indian National Brain Bee champion-2018 will be invited to participate in the International Brain Bee Championship scheduled to take place in Germany in July 2018. Dr Sundarachary presented prizes and trophies to winners and participants on the occasion.
