Andhra Pradesh: Araku rail reopens after 2-month hiatus

This train line is running through the dense Eastern Ghats which is a lifeline of the country.

Visakhapatnam: In a major update from the East Coast Railway and a much-awaited news to the tourists who have been waiting to travel in the Vizag-Araku passenger train, the Kothavalasa-Kirandul line, which had remained suspended for almost two months is all set to resume on December 11. Railway Bridge no. 249 between Borraguhalu and Chimidipalli Railway Station in Kottavalasa-Koraput-Kirandul (KK) rail line has been badly affected after huge rocks by the side of the waterfall, fell on pier No. 1 on October 6.

This train line is running through the dense Eastern Ghats which is a lifeline of the country. The bridge of the rail line is adjacent to the waterfall and is scenic. It is about 90 Km from Vizag and 120 Km from Koraput. In the restoration work, 34 tonne rock breaker, 300 tonne capacity excavator, 200 tonne capacity excavator and 75 tonne capacity excavator were used. Concrete work was done by pumping without the help of manual work. The bridge was constructed with an expenditure of only '7 crore by using 400 labourers for a period of 58 days.

This is the record of any Bridge Work done in so short a period. As the bridge construction works completed in KK-Line in record time, train services will commence from Sunday. Train no8511 / 8512 (Vizag-Jagdalpur -Vizag Express will run on normal route via Araku from December 10 onwards. Train No 58501/58502 Vizag-Kirandul-Vizag passenger will start normal run via Araku with effect from Monday (December 11). Passengers who have already booked tickets in advance can also utilise the facility.
