Agrigold assets to be auctioned

The auction process of Agrigold assets will commence from today.

VIJAYAWADA: The auction process of Agrigold assets will commence from Sunday according to the schedule issued by the High Court, said the director general of police (DGP) N. Sambasiva Rao. While speaking to the media persons on Satur-day, Mr Sambasiva Rao said that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) has done a commendable job in cracking the multi-crore scam.

According to the DGP, the Agrigold company has collected Rs 6380.48 crore from 19 lakh customers through 32 lakh accounts. Out of the 19 lakh customers, 11.5 lakh belonged to Andhra Pradesh having deposits to the tune of Rs 4000 crore. Till date, the CID has seized Rs 2,200 crore worth of properties that includes 17,000 acres of land in Andhra Pradesh and 3,000 acres in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The DGP has said 80 per cent of the customers are having deposits not more than Rs 10,000 and to settle these accounts Rs 1100 crore is needed. He said the CID also identified properties belonging to Agrigold at Keesara near Kanchikacherla and at various places in Vijayawada city. The DGP said that from December 11, anyone can submit their bids for the notified properties of the Agrigold. The interested buyers can visit the properties till December 18 and submit their bids in sealed covers addressed to the registrar of the High Court till December 26. The high-powered committee will monitor the auction proceedings and the sealed covers will be opened on December 27.

Meanwhile, Mr Sambasiva Rao said that an inquiry is being conducted over the involvement of IPS officers in the currency exchange allegations. “As of now, we do not have any substantial evidence against the IPS officers over the allegations and if any details come up regarding the role of IPS officers in exchanging the old currency notes with new ones, they will have to face the law and action will beinitiated.”
