Bengaluru: Building collapses, guard dies
Bengaluru: A security guard was buried alive after a four-storeyed, under-construction residential building collapsed in Basavanagudi in Thyagrajnagar police limits on Saturday evening.
The deceased, Suneel (23), was on duty when the building collapsed.
A call was made to the Fire and Emergency Department around 5 pm. Soon, five tenders and over 10 quick response teams, including personnel from civil defence, rushed to the spot and began the rescue and search operation.
No one, except Suneel, was at the building, which was yet to be occupied. No labourers too had reported at the site, which is near Sai Baba Temple at Thyagaraja Nagar, because of Deepavali holidays, the police said.
An official told Deccan Chronicle that the pillars of the building collapsed because of loose soil. There is also construction going on at a neighbouring site, he said.
Local residents gathered at the spot reportedly told Fire and Emergency Department officials that there were over five to six workers at the site. But even after a search of over two hours, they could not find any bodies, except that of Suneel, which was pulled out around 7.30 pm.
As the roads are narrow, the rescue teams took some time to reach the spot.
Officials shifted the body to a government hospital for post mortem and a case has been registered.
