Rajeev murder case: SIT ready for charge sheet

The lawyer kept on repeating that he had nothing to do with the kidnap and murder of Rajiv.

Thrissur: The Special Investigation Team probing the murder of real estate agent Rajeev in Chalakudy has collected most of the evidence for filing the chargesheet. As the seventh accused, senior lawyer C P Udayabhanu, was not co-operating with the cops, the team is planning to file the charges against all the seven accused soon without further questioning the lawyer.

SIT head DySP S Shamsudeen told DC that even though the lawyer was sent to police custody by Chalakkudy magistrate court for three days, he was sent back to the sub-jail before fully completing his police custody as he was not answering the queries, regarding the alleged conspiracy charges against him, properly.

The lawyer kept on repeating that he had nothing to do with the kidnap and murder of Rajiv. The lawyer was taken to Chammanampathy in Palakkad while he was in SIT custody where he had paid an advance or '50 lakhs to buy a plot. But, while questioning, he refused to talk about the deal to SIT, Mr Shamsudeen said.

“We have a statement against the lawyer from the other accused in the kidnapping and murder of real estate agent Rajeev on September 29 and accordingly were are planning to file the chargesheet,” DySP said.

Udayabhanu had financial disputes with Rajeev over some land deals and a suit was filed in HC over the matter.

Meanwhile, the first four accused in the case including first accused Shaiju have moved the district court seeking bail and fifth and sixth accused Chakkara Johny and Ranjit (both from Angamaly) have moved High Court also for bail. But the SIT has filed an application in both the courts seeking rejection of their bail plea.
