Methane project in TN scrapped: Minister

Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said the Centre had cancelled the methane gas project in Tamil Nadu.

CHENNAI: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said the Centre had cancelled the methane gas project in Tamil Nadu. “There is no dispute regarding Shell (coal bed methane) gas in Tamil Nadu, but there is a dispute in the methane gas project in Mannargudi area due to allotment overlapping,” he said.

“Besides, local agitation from farming community is there. They are opposing the project. Right now, the project has been cancelled,” the minister said, talking to reporters at New Delhi. On the supply of ethanol, all states are cooperating except Tamil Nadu. “We are giving good price and continue to give good price. Tamil Nadu should permit all market companies to procure ethanol at a good price as it will be beneficial for Tamil Nadu farmers and its sugarcane industries,” he said.
