Khammam: Notes ban paralyses normal life
Khammam: There is no solace to the woes of common man brought by the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
The banks in Khammam issued only Rs 2,000 denomination notes to the people, who in turn faced problems to do regular transactions with the big note. Shopkeepers are unable to give balance amount after deducting the price of the goods for Rs 2,000 note.
State Bank of India official K. Srinivasa Rao said the problem would be solved only when new Rs 500 notes reach the market and they will able to issue new Rs 500 notes from Friday
Trading activity in all sectors, too, came down drastically. B. Rajeswara Rao, a rice mill owner, said the mill business fell 25 per cent as people avoided coming to the mill to buy rice.
But, many traders gave the goods to consumers on credit. There is lot of demand for Rs 100 notes and the shopkeepers are unable to sell their goods, despite the customers submitting new Rs 2,000 notes.
In Dammapet mandal, labourers refused to take Rs 500 and Rs1,000 notes given by managers of various nurseries and maize farmers, leading to an undeclared labour bandh.
Lorry drivers, too, bore the brunt as hotel owners refused to serve them food.
K. Sundara Rao, a lorry driver and coming from Vizag with steel to Hyderabad, said, “I tried to have meal at 10 hotels on the way from Vizag but to no avail. I halted at Khammam SBI bank and exchanged big notes and plan to head for a hotel now.”
