JD(S) dumps rebels, to form core panel

Party workers have been asked to fan out in the constituencies and understand the problems of people.

Bengaluru: Dumping the eight rebel legislators who cross-voted during the last Rajya Sabha elections, JD(S) has decided to reconstitute its office-bearers’ list.
At the party leaders' meeting in the city, JD(S) also decided to constitute a core committee comprising 23 members and district level committees to study the drought situation in their respective districts.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, JD(S) state president Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy said the party was gearing up for the forthcoming elections to the Assembly, due in 2018. Party workers have been asked to fan out in the constituencies and understand the problems of people.

The meeting also deliberated on the issues that have to be taken up during the forthcoming Belagavi session. ''I have taken a house in Hubballi to organise the party in North Karnataka. The house warming ceremony is on November 18 and after that, I will organise two farmer rallies at Mudde Bihal and Devara Hipparagi. This is to focus attention on the massive crop damage in Vijayapura district,'' Mr Kumaraswamy said.

Explaining the party strategy for the next election, Mr Kumaraswamy said his party would avoid personal attacks on any leader or party. “Our campaign will be issue based. The two national parties have failed the state in both the Mahadayi and Cauvery water disputes. They have even failed to come to rescue of farmers who have lost crops worth over Rs 45000 crore during the last three years. We have different problems in Bengaluru city and rural areas. We will have a different approach to each place,'' Mr Kumaraswamy said.

On whether leaders from BJP and Congress are planning to join hands with JD(S), he said this may not happen immediately. “There are a lot of leaders, who had migrated from Janata Parivar and are disillusioned with their respective parties. During polls, such an influx into JD(S) cannot be ruled out,” he added.
Lauding the move by PM Modi to ban '500 and '1000 currency notes, Mr Kumaraswamy said that the move was a blessing for political parties like JD(S).
