Hyderabad: Villagers seek sub-inspector’s suspension
HYDERABAD: Mild tension prevailed at Pallerla within the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate when villagers blocked vehicular traffic on the Mothkur-Rayagiri main road demanding suspension of Athmakur sub-inspector.
Villagers resorted to the blockade protesting against two youngsters being roughed up by police on Wednesday night when a group of people was taking an idol of Goddess Durga for immersion in a procession.
People were throwing coloured ‘gulal’ powder at each other as part of the celebrations.
The colour fell on Athmakur sub-inspector K. Yadagiri and other policemen who were on security duty.
This led to a heated argument between a youngster, Ravinder, who intervened and the SI. When Ravinder and another youngster later tried to run away from the scene, they were chased and beaten up brutally by policemen, villagers allege.
On Thursday morning, villagers blockaded the road demanding immediate suspension of the sub-inspector and his team for their alleged highhandedness. They also gave a representation to senior officials of the Rachakonda commissionerate in this regard.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat has ordered an inquiry into the incident by Choutuppal ACP P Sathaiah. When contacted, the ACP said: “Villagers allege policemen were highhanded when colours fell on them. The SI too has lodged a complaint against the villagers alleging that they misbehaved with the police performing their duty. A detailed inquiry is underway and a report would be submitted.”
