Hyderabad: Man convicted for illegal sand-mining

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old farmer, arrested on the charges of illegal sand transportation, was convicted by a court in Ibrahimpatnam on Thursday. The farmer was directed to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment and pay Rs 1,000 towards fine for illegally transporting two tonnes of sand.

On July 26, 2017, a case was registered by Yacharam police against one K. Madhusudhan Reddy of Battugudem village in Nalgonda district based on a complaint from a revenue official that the former was caught transporting sand illeally from Manthangowrelli village.

Reddy was stopped on the outskirts of the village when he was heading from Bhanu thanda in a lorry and about two tonnes of sand were seized.

Later, during police investigation, it was found that Reddy was collecting sand from illegally from a canal and selling it to the public. The Rachakonda police said that a case was registered against Madhusudhan Reddy under sections 379 of IPC, section 3 of the PDPP Act and section 21 (I) of the MMDAR Act, and the case was charge-sheeted before the 26th Metropolitan Magistrate court at Ibrahimpatnam.
